Dining Commons Employee Scheduling (2005)

As a student scheduler at Redifer Dining Commons at Penn State University, I was responsible for managing the schedules and work-related issues of nearly 200 student employees. That meant that I had to provide information to keep these student employees and their managers on the same page. Whenever a student received a warning, they had to be notified. If one had an exam or an illness and couldn't come to work, the schedule had to be modified to reflect this, and an attempt had to be made to fill the shift. I created a website to handle all of these tasks. Since I was not familiar with PHP/MySQL or other database-related languages at the time, I created a website to do what I want using the skills I had. That meant I had to use a combination of Javascript and CGI to set up a simple system of storing and retrieving information. The unique system had proven remarkably stable and robust, and was set up for two more HFS units at Penn State: Pollock Dining Commons and The Mix convenience store. The sites are used on a daily basis by hundreds of student employees and managers at the commons. The websites are available at the following locations:
