General Information About
Montoursville
Montoursville is a town of approximately 12,000 citizens nestled in the mountainous
Susquehanna Valley in south-central Lycoming County, Pennsylvania. Montoursville is
directly bordered by the city of Williamsport to its west and the town of Muncy to its
east. The Borough of Montoursville is bounded by the Loyalsock Creek to its west and
the West Branch of the Susquehanna River to its south (see map below). The town has
witnessed a varied and interesting history, and is currently 235 years old. The
history of Montoursville has been widely shaped by its plentiful natural resources,
including fresh water and abundant timber, especially significant during the lumber era of
the 19th century. The town has access to major cities via its commuter service at
the Williamsport Regional Airport in town. Montoursville has been home to many
successful industries, small businesses, and citizens, and this continues today.
Montoursville
is also home to the thriving Montoursville Area School District, which serves about 2,200
students in grades K-12. The district facilities are comprised of four buildings (a
high, middle, and two elementary schools) as well as several athletic facilities.
Academics and athletics have always been important to Montoursville's schools, and
the students of the district today carry on this tradition. The district services
students from the Borough of Montoursville and the surrounding townships of Fairfield,
Upper Fairfield, Eldred, Gamble, Cascade, and Plunkett's Creek.
